Scholarship Details: The Dr Goh Keng Swee (GKS) Scholarship Fund was set up by the financial community in Singapore in honour of the former Deputy Prime Minister, who fostered Singapore’s economic development and growth as a reputable international financial centre. The Dr GKS Scholarship is a private sector scholarship administered by the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS). Each year, 3 to 4 scholarships are awarded to outstanding individuals from 15 Asia Pacific economies (Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, PRC, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar) to pursue undergraduate studies at local universities in Singapore (i.e., National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University). The course of study should preferably be relevant to the financial sector.
Eligibility:
The Scholarship is open to students from Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, PRC, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Singapore citizens and PRs are not eligible to apply for the Dr GKS Scholarship.
The Dr GKS Scholarship is highly selective. Applicants should fulfil the following criteria:
(a) Concurrently apply for admission to NUS, NTU or SMU for their course of study. Applicants should adhere to the university’s admission deadlines and guidelines;
(b) Demonstrate leadership qualities and possess good co-curricular activities (CCA) records;
(c) Be a citizen/passport holder of the target Asia Pacific economies;
(d) Make private arrangements to sit for the required university admission tests (e.g., SAT and TOEFL), and
(e) Preferably be below 25 years of age.

(Computer Vision and Pattern Discovery group, Bioinformatics Institute)
Our group focuses on fundamental research in computer vision and pattern recognition to build machine vision techniques for biomedical images. Our main application is image analysis and data mining on large biomedical image data sets.
Requirements:
- Experience in computer vision, machine learning or theoretical physics research
- Strong mathematical skills with training in analysis, linear algebra, probability theory etc. Candidates familiar with advanced mathematics such as optimal control, differential geometry and Clifford algebra will be highly regarded
- Strong computing skills and especially familiar with object oriented and generic programming paradigms, e.g. familiarity with the use of expression templates will be advantageous
