The Gita Wirjawan Graduate Fellowship at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University
This is our flagship program. One scholarship is offered annually to for an Indonesian to attend the Edward S. Mason Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
For the past seven decades, the Harvard Kennedy School has strived to place itself at the vanguard of studying public policy and preparing practitioners. Today the school has evolved into one of the world`s most eminent social science research institutions – housing 15 research centers and institutes and more than thirty executive education and degree programs – with worldwide reach and influence.
The Edward S. Mason Program is one of Harvard`s oldest international student programs. It brings together leaders from around the world who enroll in the one-year Master in Public Administration Degree. The emphasis of the program and courses is on developing the broad range of analytical and leadership skills required to initiate and to implement major political, social, or economic change.
More than 27,000 Kennedy School alumni reside in 137 countries and serve in a wide range of positions in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Mason Fellows come from all across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Eastern and Central Europe, as well as the former Soviet Union. Graduates of the Mason Program return to their countries to assume high-level positions. Many of them have become world leaders, including several heads of state such as Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as well as the current Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should have
(a) a confirmed acceptance at the Harvard Kennedy School
(b) an excellent academic record with a first degree equivalent to a good Second Class (Upper) Honors or higher or a GPA of at least 3.5;
(c) a very good command of the English Language;
(d) at least seven years full time relevant work experience; and
(e) assessed to have outstanding potential for leadership in government, business, or civil society after graduation.

Terms and Conditions
Each fellowship is tenable for one year only for full-time students on the Master of Public Administration program. The successful candidate is expected to complete his/her studies within the tenable period.
Each scholarship will cover the following:
- Tuition and other compulsory fees (as specified by Harvard University);
- Monthly stipend; and
- Return air-ticket (economy class)

The funding for this project has been made possible through a Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award in Resilient Technology.
The project will investigate the use of thermo electric generators in hostile environments, such as those experienced by space probes to the inner solar system. Recent developments suggest that efficiencies close to the theoretical Carnot limit may be possible, but this has not been achieved, with reports in the literature around 10%. The project will investigate the use of a variety of methods including thermogenerators and thermo-tunneling devices and how these perform in regions of high and low temperatures and under simulated solar flares.
This project is due to start in September 2009.

The award covers tuition fees and maintenance of approximately £13,290 per year.

2009 ASPH/CDC Environmental Health
Scholarship Program
The Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH), through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH), announces the availability of funds to support up to six (6) scholarships for students currently pursuing their doctorate degrees.
The scholarship recipients will conduct doctoral-level studies related to the efforts of CDC/NCEH linking the built environment with public health or to the efforts of CDC/NCEH related to public health and climate change.
Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to pursue their studies while receiving guidance and input from CDC experts in two key areas of study: the relationship between public health and community design; and, the relationship between public health and climate change.

PhD Positions in Nonlinear Nanoplasmonics, Canada
Two Ph.D. positions in nonlinear nanoplasmonics
Based in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Dalhousie University, Canada. Research in the interdisciplinary fields of nonlinear nanophotonics, nanoplasmonics and biophotonics.
The successful applicants will be involved in experimental study of linear and nonlinear optical properties of metal nanostructures using near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM), optimization of composition/structure for enhancing optical nonlinearities, metal surface functionalization for developing biomedical interfaces for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes, ultrafast optical measurements with fs lasers, and theoretical modeling of linear and nonlinear properties of metal nanostructures.
The potential candidates are expected to have a solid background in optics, photonics, and nanotechnology; excellent experimental skills and willingness to pursue numerical modeling are required, some aptitude for theoretical analysis is a plus.
The work will require a close cross-departmental (electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, biology) as well as inter-institutional collaboration. Personal skills: we seek highly motivated, well-organized and creative individuals, capable of working under minimal supervision whenever required. A very competitive scholarship is offered.
