PhD Scholarship in Luxembourg (University of Luxembourg)

The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy within the Laboratory of Physics of Advanced Materials (Physics and Materials Science Research Unit, Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication):

1 PhD Student (M/F) in Physics (M/F)

  • Ref: F1R-PHY-PFN-10POLY
  • Financed by the Luxemburgish AFR (Aide Formation Recherche) fellowship (further information and guidelines on http://www.afr.lu)
  • 3 year fixed-term contract, renewable one year under justified circumstances
  • Employee status

Research area:
The  candidate will work in the framework of a project including both theoretical and experimental studies of flow-induced crystallization in polymers. He/she will be involved in the experimental investigation of these phenomena using techniques such that rheology, calorimetry and optical microscopy. Verification of predictions from computer simulations requires strong collaboration with the Laboratory for Theory of Soft Condensed Matter (Prof. Dr. Tanja Schilling) at the University of Luxembourg.

Profile

  • Master or diploma degree in experimental physics
  • Background in polymer physics
  • Inquisitiveness, commitment,  creativity and willingness to integrate into the existing team
  • Good written and oral English skills are obligatory, working knowledge in German and/or French is an advantage

Offer

  • a well-equipped physics laboratory
  • an exciting international environment
  • a competitive remuneration
